This September, Carol Gray spoke to a crowd of almost 200 educators, parents, and fans in Plano at the Sockwell Center. The workshop, entitled, “Solving the Social Equation in Autsim Spectrum Disorders” was geared around the well known strategy she developed called Social Stories™. Social Stories™ are used worldwide with children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The stories combine visual cues with a written routine to aid in understanding social situations.
Carol’s lighthearted manner of presentation paired with excellent videos and examples really helped many parents understand how to use social stories with their children. Her latest book, entitled The New Social Story Book, Revised and Expanded 10th Anniversary Edition: Over 150 Social Stories that Teach Everyday Social Skills to Children with Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome, and their Peers includes many new stories on relevant topics and situations. The book also includes a CD-Rom for ease with printing out stories to share with others working with the child on the specific skill.
