Recommended Reads + Dallas Area Book Signings & Book Clubs

This time of year is marked as cozy up and read weather.  When it’s cold outside, what sounds better than grabbing your grandmother’s afghan and curling up on the couch with your hot beverage of choice and a good read?  Nothing, I tell you.  Nothing.  Below are my current reading picks as well as local book signings and book clubs.

her mother's hope her daughter's dream

Francine Rivers’ 2 part Marta Legacy series, Her Mother’s Hope and Her Daughter’s Dream are must reads!  You’ll be crying and contemplating motherhood in the midst of this excellent read!  (My review on Her Mother’s Hope and Her Daughter’s Dream, if you’re interested.)

alex cross's trial i, alex cross cross fire

James Patterson’s Alex Cross series.  I’m currently reading Alex Cross’s Trial.  Not only is it a great read but the chapters are short (like 3-4 pages short).  For a busy mama like me who gets spurts of reading time here and there, short chapters create a sense of accomplishment!  Alex Cross is one of Patterson’s main characters and there’s many books starring him.  Alex Cross’s Trial; I, Alex Cross; and Cross Fire, to name a few.  Look for his new book, Tick Tock, in stores January 24th.

Fatal Convictions

Randy Singer’s Fatal Convictions.  This is an excellent, excellent book.  One that’s hard to put down once you get into it.  I let a few friends borrow this book and the consensus was the same!  Read my review and author interview here.

artisan breads every day whole grain breads

Bread is my comfort food.  It’s also a “warm me up in cold weather” food.  Soup with piping hot bread fresh from the oven?  Yum, yum!  My current favorite bread books are Peter Reinhardt’s Artisan Breads Every Day and Whole Grain Breads.

unstuff couple who pray

Non-fiction reads on my list to read are Unstuff and Couples Who Pray.  I’m usually not as eager to read non-fiction as I am to read fiction, but I’m excited to dive into these.

good morning gorillas lions at lunchtime sunset of the sabertooth

Reading time with my 8 year old son has currently involved books from Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House Series.  I love how the kid’s imaginations run wild and take them on fun adventures! So far we’ve read Good Morning Gorillas, Lions At Lunchtime, and Sunset of the Sabertooth with many more on the list!

pinkalicious pink around the rink

My very girlie 6 year old has been in love with the Pinkalicious series!  What girlie girl wouldn’t when it’s all about PINK!  So far we’ve read Pinkalicious and Pinkalicious: Pink Around The Rink.

Wonderful list. I can’t wait to pick up the Francine River’s books. I have read many of her books and just love her. Thanks again for taking the time to put up some good reads.
