Lisa is a lawyer by education and a homebody by inclination. She is married to a wonderful man who knows his way around a washing machine and who has the legs to look awesome in a kilt, mom to two busy boys whose interests range from video games and lightsabers to Thomas the Tank Engine, and personal pincushion for the family's diva cat, 18-year-old Oscar. She worked in the financial services industry for a number of years, and before that, was privileged to serve as an assistant county and district attorney in two different Texas counties. In her spare time, Lisa likes to cook, play the piano, and read (favorites include sci-fi/fantasy and mystery/suspense, but anything is fair game). Random trivia: her parents made up the spelling of her middle name.

Frugal Fun: LifeStyles Home & Family Expo in Waxahachie

Looking for something fun and inexpensive to do this coming weekend?  Go south, young woman, go south.  South to Waxahachie, just a little way down I-35E from Dallas – about a 25-minute drive from downtown when traffic is decent.  The Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the LifeStyles Home & Family Expo on Saturday, March 5 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

It’s the biggest expo of its kind in Ellis County, so you’ll find a lot to see and do – retail exhibitors ranging from jewelry to home improvement and everything in between, with door prizes and fun activities for the kids, too.  The expo will also feature “A Taste of Waxahachie”, where local restaurants offer up a sampling of their best fare.  I don’t know if the Dove’s Nest (one of my favorite local restaurants) will have a booth there, but if they do, that alone would make it worth the drive for me.  I know from personal experience that their chocolate bourbon pecan pie is absolutely to die for!

And the good thing is, all this fun won’t put a big dent in your entertainment budget.  Tickets are just $3 for adults, and children ages 10 and under get in free.  You can find the expo conveniently located at the Waxahachie Civic Center, at the intersection of Highway 287 and Interstate 35E.

So if you’ve never ventured any further south than the Trinity River, this weekend would be a good time to start.  Come on down to Waxahachie and see what Ellis County has to offer!
