In 2006, my husband and I co-founded Ten Thousand Homes, a movement of people dedicated to bringing hope and creating home for Africa’s orphans and vulnerable children. The HIV/AIDS epidemic has orphaned 16 million children throughout sub-Sahara Africa. The staggering loss forces these children to live in homes that are unsafe, leaving them vulnerable to the outside world. Home is more than four walls and a roof, but it starts there. Through the building of care centers and homes, these kids are able to feel safe. They are able to eat a hot meal, get their clothes washed, receive a hug…everything a healthy home should have.
A movement is defined as a group of people working together to advance their shared ideas. Ten Thousand Homes is near and dear to my heart, and nothing excites me more than seeing other people join the movement. Together we can make a difference to see a generation of orphans not forgotten.
Brothers, Brett and Josh Tilford are joining the movement by celebrating the work of Ten Thousand Homes with the goal of raising $5,000, enough money to build a home for a family of orphans. 1 House 1 Night will be a night of live music, live art, a photo exhibition centered around the cause, full menu and bar, and the chance to hang out with the people you know and love – all while making the world a better place. The event is free to attend, but donations will be accepted at the end of the night. 100% of all donations will go straight to Ten Thousand Homes.
