Carrie is a stay-at-home-mom to two children, Jack (3) and Claire (1). Previously an account manager for a local insurance firm, she now spends the days wrangling small children and wondering how the house got so messy, and considers the day a success if everyone is dressed by noon. She also likes horses, books, iced tea and lip gloss. She blogs about learning to be a Stay-at-Home-Mom at Carrie Elle.

Murphy Maize Days

It’s *finally* starting to feel like Fall in Texas, and for my family, that means taking advantage of the beautiful weather and spending as much time outside as possible.  Luckily for us, there are tons of family-friendly activities around the metroplex this Fall…and many of them are practically in our own backyard.

On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the town of Murphy will be celebrating their town’s heritage with the annual Murphy Maize Days celebration.

The event kicks off at 8 AM with Murphy’s A-Maize-ing 5K  / Fun Run.

The rest of the event starts at 10 AM and lasts until 8:30 PM.  Admission is FREE, and there’s going to be lots to do!

Kids will love the Kidz Zone, Car Show and Face Painting.  I, for one, am excited about the food and visiting the vendors in Vendors Alley.  There will be tons of live music throughout the day, and the event culminates in a laser show at the end of the night.

For those of you with a competitive spirit, you can sign up for the Karaoke Corn Idol competition (this is open to all ages), or get your craft on at the Scarecrow Decorating Contest (sadly, I don’t have the skills for either…but I’m sure they will be great fun to watch).

You can find more details at the website, including where to park.  The event is large – it takes up over 30 acres – and covers the Murphy Municipal Complex.

Come out and support your local town (and keep the kids entertained for free, while you’re at it!).   I hope to see you at Murphy Maize Days!
