Blooms, Tunes and Chili Spoons – Farmers Branch’s Bloomin’ Bluegrass 2012, Oct. 20 & 21

This weekend Farmers Branch becomes the epicenter of all things bluegrass with the FREE Bloomin’ Bluegrass 2012, Oct. 20 & 21.

The best names in bluegrass will play under the open sky at the Farmers Branch Texas Historical Park including Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, theTravelin’ McCourys with Peter RowanBlue Highway, the Gibson Brothers,Michael Cleveland & FlamekeeperKenny & Amanda Smith Band, the Toy Hearts,Gold HeartSgt. Pepper’s Lonely Bluegrass BandAlan Tompkins, and more.

The chili cook-off competition starts early Saturday morning, and the winners will be announced from stage on Saturday afternoon.  The schedule of entertainment and events is posted online at  There’s plenty of free parking very close to the park, and the popular hayride shuttles will be running.

A chili tasting cup costs only $3 – and you can sample chili until it runs out!  The City will contribute 100% of the chili cup proceeds to the Foundation’s Play It Forward! Instrument Lending Program (a great program aimed at students to learn a bluegrass instrument) and the Friends of the Farmers Branch Historical Park . Gates open at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, and the chili will be ready for tasting by 11 a.m.  Come hungry!

If you love to shop, you are going to have a great time!  Bloomin’ Bluegrass 2012 will feature several new vendors, an arts & crafts plaza, and you must walk the beautiful rose gardens in the park as another great family to-do.
