If you hadn’t heard, Madonna cancelled last Saturday’s (10/20/12) Dallas concert due to severe laryngitis. Unfortunately for me, I was looking forward to attending the concert to cap my 40th birthday celebration.
I can recall the first time I heard Madonna – during our 7th grade cheer practice and we were learning our first dance to “Lucky Star”. Yes, you remember that song too! I remember how appalled my very strict mother was when she saw Madonna on television parading around in lingerie and singing “Like a Virgin”. She really pushed that envelope back in the day. In fact, at 54 years old, she still does.
When I saw her on television performing at the Super Bowl, I thought to myself, “I owe my younger self a concert with Madonna”. Before I knew it, her Dallas tour date was announced and I was one of many to have secured seating at her sold out Saturday show. Only to find out that it had been extended to a Sunday show too. If I had only known then to purchase tickets for Sunday vs. Saturday! Madonna ended up performing on Sunday though showing up three hours late.
As fate would have it, I got a text a few hours before Sunday’s show from a family friend asking if I wanted to go to the concert. “No thanks, “ I texted back. It was almost 7 pm and I was ready to call it a night. I felt like I had been jerked around too many times by Madonna and I wasn’t going to let her do that to me once more.
I’m sorry, Madonna, I fell out of love with you.
