I'm a wife (18 years & still going) and mommy to two boys (9 and 2). I left my job in corporate America to be a full time stay at home mom after our second son was born. I'm now the CEO of chaos in the Simmons household. I'm an organization and crafting freak. I love things in it's place and I love to create. My creative side is the one area I let loose and chaos and mess can live (for a limited time). There's a certain kind of peace and connectedness that happens when life is simplified, organized, and you can create. Especially when you can relax and let your kids be... well kids. I can't wait to share with all of you mamas.

Pinterest Obsessed!

Pinterest

As summer break is winding down, I have been on Pinterest looking for stuff for my kids to do that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. Then my obsession resurfaced. I had toned it down a lot, but like a lot of other moms I’m a bit obsessed with Pinterest. It’s like another form of Google just for moms (I know there are guys on there too, but it’s mostly us). When I started, it was innocent enough. A pin here, a pin there, of things I was going to make, try, or come back to. Just one problem, it was hard to find it again. Unless you started making more specific pin boards. So my personal Pinterest site has grown into 65 boards with a couple thousand pins – YIKES!!! I didn’t really notice the number until last week when I was copying pins to my business Pinterest site. That is NO easy job. If you’ve EVER been on Pinterest it’s like a rabbit hole. You click on one and find a few more in the same genre. Then you’re reminded by something about looking up something else, now you’re going this way. Anyway, I was finally able to find a more organized and creative way to utilize this ever enticing site.

It’s a HUGE resource for my home. I created boards to break down the topics I pinned so I could actually use it instead of just collect pins. I have boards specific to rooms in my home, boards for my boys that are specific for crafts and education. Recipes also seems to be a BIG topic and I finally broke mine into several boards… slow cooker, desserts, drinks, lunches, kid stuff. When I’m feeling creative, but I’m in a slump, I turn to my boards for inspiration. Not sure what kind of wreath I want to make… no problem, Pinterest to the rescue. I even have a board for every holiday.

If you’re new to Pinterest organize it from the beginning if you really want to be able to find that project you pinned several months later. If you’ve been on there awhile it’s not too late to start sorting some of them out. Oh and word to the wise… actually check the link. I have gone back because I wanted to use a recipe or do a project either to find out it led to a bogus site, has been removed due to inappropriate content, among other reason.

For all you DFW Mama fans, if you didn’t know, there IS a Pinterest site with pins from all your favorite DFW Today’s Mama bloggers.

As they say on Pinterest… Happy Pinning
